This looks SUPERB.

A one day conference, ‘Women in Comics’ will take place on the 25th October 2009. With its unique collection of 20th Century Women’s Art, The New Hall Art Collection provides the perfect venue for a gathering of practitioners, academics, curators and enthusiasts. Women comic artists will speak about their work, and broader discussion will include the representation of women in comics.

Check out the list of confirmed speakers, which includes Trina Robbins, Woodrow Phoenix (link includes an interview, which is essential listening), Helen McCarthy, Nicola Streeten and Asia Alfasi.

If you are about in London on the 27th July, you are welcome to attend ‘Laydeez Do Comics‘, organised by Nicola Streeten of Liquorice fame and Sarah Lightman, who is organising a conference entitled ‘Women in Comics‘ on Sunday 25th October, 2009 at the New Hall Art Collection, which deserves a post all to itself.

It is a monthly graphic novel reading group/forum with a focus on the autobiographical, the drama of the domestic and the everyday.

This month, they are discussing Shaun Tan’s The Arrival. If you haven’t heard of Shaun Tan, immediately go and buy all of his books and listen to Alex Fitch interview him for the Panel Borders show on Resonance FM and then go and discuss what you have learnt with the Laydeez.
